ABOUT US

No one should carry a boat alone.

This is what the company stands for. Not alone does not mean instead of you. We take none of the captain's role away — only part of the load. When we are deciding what to build, and what not to, this is what we hold it against.

WHAT WE DO

Make the boat legible.

A boat is a black box to the people aboard it. There are hundreds of things worth watching, the wear is invisible, and it is slow.

Our business is to turn the condition of a boat into something you can see, understand, and act on.

ON OUR NAME

The mind belongs to the ship.
The decisions belong to her captain.

Brainship takes its name from Anne McCaffrey's brain ships — vessels in which an intelligence inhabits the hull, paired with a partner who moves through the world outside it.

In her books, a human mind that could not live in a body was given a ship instead. We are doing the inverse. We are giving a ship to a machine intelligence that has never had a body at all.

So Helva is not a device that operates your boat. Helva is crew that lives in it. The helm stays yours.
